Dreamer's Dream
Five masks turn recurring dreams of childhood and home into an embodied encounter.
Interactive installation with 3D-printed masks and video
About the work
I begin with recurring dreams of my childhood and home in Iran, recording them as handwritten transcriptions across five 3D-printed masks. A visitor places their face inside a mask, where their presence activates projected video. Ultrasonic sensors and a Raspberry Pi connect the encounter with the recorded images.
The mask gives a private memory a physical form that another person can enter. I am interested in what happens when an image of home meets a body that carries different memories. The visitor’s gesture brings the memory of a distant place into a present encounter.
Placing a face inside a mask activates projected video associated with memories of home.
